Unbinding Perfectionism From Your Creative Practice

By Yaerin Kweon

SNAKESKIN

About This Session:

Perfectionism doesn’t make you a better creator. It just disconnects you from your sacred creative flow. In this session, you’ll be guided through a grounding energetic opening, then explore how perfectionism and urgency culture sabotage your natural rhythms and creative expression. Together, we’ll gently unravel the internalized pressures of worthiness, productivity, and survival that shape how you show up to your craft and transmute them into embodied trust, devotion, and self-acceptance. Through energy healing and spiritual reframing, you’ll learn to reorient your creative practice from performance to presence, from pressure to power.

✨Expect to walk away with a deeper sense of connection to your creative self not in spite of your imperfections, but because of them.

hello there.
My name is Yaerin Kwan.
I use they them pronouns.
And I'm the creator of Snakeskin, which represents the cyclical and alchemical shedding of skin
that us conscious beings move through throughout our lives.
And Snakeskin is really a celebration of this sacred process of shedding as well as the liberated
creative expression that flows as a natural byproduct from aligning ourselves with this sacred cycle
of releasing what no longer serves.
I am so grateful to be here with you today.
I'm going to be sharing on the topic of liberating your creative practice from perfectionism, and it is
my sincere wish that this is supportive to you.
So we're going to start by opening the the space.
So I invite you to get comfortable.
If you want, you can lie down, you can close your eyes, because I'm going to be channeling some
energy healing for you in this session.
So please get comfortable, take a moment to settle in, wiggle your body a little bit, get any
movement that you need out, express it.
And I invite you to gently close your eyes or soften your gaze and bring your awareness to your
breath.
Inhaling in deeply and exhale.
Inhale in and exhale one more time.
Inhale in deeply and exhale.
And continue now to breathe in and out gently at your own pace as you now bring your awareness
to the places where your body is touching the surface below.
Feeling the sensation of your body making contact, being supported by the ground, the Earth,
taking a few moments to renew our connection to the Earth.
Feeling a sense of belonging, support, unconditional acceptance from the Earth, from its very
molten, fiery core.
Connecting to our energy body, perhaps feeling into a grounding energetic cord, pulling that up
from the core of the earth to the base of your spine, just with your imagination, whatever it means
to you, breathing into this grounding connection with the Earth, feeling safe and supported now
connecting to the energy of the heavens, the cosmos.
Imagining a silvery cord of energy rising from the crown of your head to the heavens.
So you're landing here, grounded on the Earth, connected to the heavens, breathing.
I open the sacred space by giving gratitude to our bodies and our breaths, to the earth and the
heavens, to all of our well, ancestors of land, lineage and legacy, our spirit team and all guides and
allies, known and unknown.
I call all helpers, all supportive frequencies into this space to support us in this healing.
Giving gratitude to any deities, guardians, angels, extraterrestrial entities, anyone that wants to
come through and support us in this space.
I give gratitude to your presence.
I give gratitude to the elements that we get to walk with water, fire, air, earth, wood, metal, ether.
May we be collectively protected from any and all energies, entities and frequencies that are not in
service of our highest path of service and healing and contribution to life.
May I be supported in connecting with the energy bodies of all those who view this session.
May I be supported in channeling the most profound healing, transformation and relief for all those
ready to receive around the themes of perfectionism and urgency culture.
May this session serve as a deeply healing and transformative experience.
Let it be so.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Continue breathing slowly in and out.
And through this session, I invite you to center your awareness into your body, tuning in to your
energetic body how you're feeling and allow the south of your conscious awareness to facilitate
movement and flow in any areas that have become stuck tight or stagnant.
Inviting in this intention of opening, of releasing, of inviting flow and movements and healing.
So if you are here, I have a sense that you identify as being creative.
You enjoy expressing yourself, whether that's through your voice, your craft, your writing, your
thoughts.
And you have tasted the joy of a liberated creative practice where the ideas and the expression
just flow, feel like they're flowing effortlessly through your body, through your vessel.
It's like there's this divine connection where this ethereal energy is just being channeled through
your body and into the form of your creative expression.
And this is what I mean by liberated creative expression, a liberated creative practice, one where
you are so connected to this source of infinite abundance and creative energy that it just flows
through you effortlessly with ease.
And this state of expression, of creative output overflow, is natural.
It comes naturally to you when you are connected to and aligned with your true essence, who you
really are, when you are in that state of feeling grounded and resourced and you are exactly where
you need to be when you are connected with that sense of feeling, like you're exactly where you
need to be and you are in alignment with your purpose and what you are here to contribute to the
collective as a creative, it is quite literally magic.
And living in this modern day world with all of its limitations and distractions and misguided ideas
and beliefs about how life should be and how we need to do things and how we need to think and
see the world.
It's really easy for this thread, this channel of creative expression sourced from the divine, to be
lost and losing track of it is actually part of the process of reconnecting with it so deeply that it can
never be taken from you again, it can never be severed from you, because it is a part of who you
are in your most true grounded essence.
And one of the things that is perhaps the strongest influence on disconnecting us from this divine
flow of creative expression is this idea of perfectionism.
Perfectionism and urgency culture.
This idea that we need, need to be creating on a certain timeline, that our output determines our
worthiness.
And we need to continue to produce and produce and produce.
Disconnecting us from our natural cycles of life, like how the seasons flow from dormant winter to
the rebirth of springs to the expansion of summer and the contraction of autumn.
It's like our flow with these natural seasons is disconnected.
When we expect ourselves to continuously adhere to some unrealistic expectation of productivity.
And putting these unnatural constraints of expectations and perfectionism and timelines onto this
natural flow, it curtails this flow, it disconnects us.
And if you think about just about anything in nature, whether it's a flower, a plant, a tree, an
animal, like a deer or a fish or a bird, all of these beings naturally express themselves through their
creative life force energy.
And they don't criticize themselves, they don't hold themselves to some kind of external standard
of worthiness.
Think about a flower.
Does a flower ever beat itself up or criticize itself for not growing fast enough or not growing pretty
enough?
We want to be aligned with the energy of that flower.
Because us too, we too, as human beings, we are part of nature.
And our true nature is to be connected to this place of ease and alignment and unconditional
acceptance of who we are and where we are today.
Exactly, exactly as we are, without putting any kind of limit or expectation on ourselves to be a
certain way that we are not naturally inclined to expressing ourselves.
Perfectionism itself manifests in a variety of ways, such as the inner critic, that internal critical
monologue or procrastination or self sabotage.
Because you can't start if the conditions aren't perfect.
You need everything to be exactly the way you want it to be in order to feel safe starting, which
protects you from the unknown of throwing yourself into the creative process and exposing
yourself, being vulnerable with yourself and the divine presence of your true nature.
And just surrendering to the flow of what wants to flow through you.
And this fear, it's very natural, it's very human.
And it has also been exploited by these artificial, unnatural systems like productivity standards or
capitalism.
And colonialism has kind of exploited this fear response in our brains.
That is very natural for a human being, an animal that we needed to survive.
And it's about bringing our awareness to these responses and to our tendencies to be critical and
to avoid and to control and obsess and just recognize when these energies are coming into play
and bringing our awareness, our unconditional acceptance, our compassion to these contracted
parts of ourselves.
Because ultimately they're all just fear based survival mechanisms that did once play a role in
helping us survive when it wasn't safe, when it wasn't allowed for us to be in our fullest expressions
because our caregivers perhaps were not able to witness us in our full expression.
And so we had to mask ourselves and mold ourselves into some kind of limiting box or disconnect
from parts of ourselves because we were told that we were too much, or we were told that we
needed to be quiet and calm and stay out of the way and not make a big noise and not express
ourselves, not express our boundaries, be okay with being mistreated.
And all of these ways that were impressed on us as children, as young people, they are still very
much embedded in our nervous systems, in our bodies, in our energies.
And it is so crucial to spend the time to connect with these younger parts of ourselves, with these
protective layers, and bring this awareness again of compassion, of love, of unconditional
acceptance.
Just witnessing these areas of the body that are feeling, feeling tight in this moment and these
fears that are coming up and these doubts and these thoughts and these critical beliefs and critical
thoughts that are all part of us.
And so they deserve to be recognized and witnessed and honored and appreciated and even been
celebrated for what they have done for us and how they have supported us in the past.
As we move through our journeys as conscious creative change makers and artists and thinkers
and leaders in this process of accepting ourselves exactly as we are and acknowledging the ways
in which we have betrayed ourselves because we needed to fit some kind of external standard or
be perfect or be the best, or else it wasn't safe as younger people is part of our journey of healing
and expansion and growth.
And so this experience of feeling contraction and feeling burdened by these critical thoughts or
perfectionism and the constriction of that, the suffocation of that is part of the beautiful journey of
liberating yourself from this experience of disconnection and fear and survival.
And so we couldn't have the light without the dark.
We couldn't have the liberated creative expression without also the experience of constriction and
disconnection from our creative practice.
Let's soften the belief that we need perfectionism in order to succeed, that we need to push
ourselves beyond our means in Order to achieve, when we let go of needing to be the best from a
place of needing to prove yourself worthy when you are already worthy, and soften and release
and let go of that need to prove yourself with a certain kind of outcome and soften into your
natural state of devoting yourself to your practice, to your craft of excellence, from a place of
grounded presence and from an energy of devotion to the divine.
Devotion as an act of service, creative expression, devotion to your craft as an act of worship.
And so to connect with this feeling of being enough, you must practice feeling grounded in this
experience of what it feels like to not be enough, of what it feels like to be unworthy, to be
disconnected, to be rejected, to need to prove yourself and fix and perform and be perfect in order
to be worthy, in order to be acceptable, you need to bring your conscious awareness and your
compassion to all the parts of yourself that need your love, that need your presence, that need
your acceptance and care and tenderness.
Let's just take a deep breath into all of that, into all of the areas of contraction and stuckness and
fear in your body.
Inhale in deeply and exhale, letting go.
And I will leave you with this invitation to cultivate a devotional relationship with your creative
practice where you show up, because this is how you devote your creative life force energy to be of
service to divine life, to the collective, to collective liberation, and to show up with consistency and
care and compassion, holding space for all parts of yourself, including the parts that are afraid,
including the parts that reach for perfectionism in order to feel safe and make space, space for all
parts of yourself, accepting yourself exactly as you are while making consistent space, empty
space where you do nothing but breathe and be present with your body and your breath and just
create that space to invite the divine into your life.
Create space to allow the support that is always abundantly available to you, to rise up, to meet
you, to emerge, to support you.
And I will close the space again by giving gratitude to your presence.
Thank you so much for showing up here with your awareness, your compassion, your energy, to all
of our guides and allies and ancestors, known and unknown, that showed up for us today, to the
elements that we get to walk with, to the earth and the heavens, our bodies and our breaths.
May you be supported in softening the grip of perfectionism, in grounding, in a sense of worthiness,
of care, of rest, of joy, of play, of community.
Regardless of how you perform or how much you achieve or produce, may you be grounded in and
connected with this inherent quality of presence and creative flow from a place of center, presence
and love.
And so it is.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
