About This Session:

Moving abroad is one of the most exciting and challenging transitions you can experience. From navigating new cultures to rebuilding your identity, it’s easy to feel unsteady or question whether you made the right choice. The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all way to adapt. Each of us has a natural energy—our Element—that shapes how we respond to change.

In this session, you’ll discover how Earth, Fire, Air, and Water energies reflect different adaptation styles, and how recognizing yours can help you move through challenges with more ease. You’ll learn why generic advice often feels draining, and how aligning with your Element makes it possible to feel grounded, confident, and connected again.

Hi, thank you for joining me today for this presentation.
Thriving abroad, aligning with your personality element to adapt with ease.
So if you are living abroad and going through things, through transitions, probably you're feeling
lost, confused and wondering who you are now with all these changes, all these new experiences,
wondering if everything that you have learned in yeah, back home, it's still applying to who you are
now.
Maybe you're also questioning if you made the right decision, if you should go back, if you should
move somewhere else, and most likely you are unsure about your next step.
So navigating change is easier when you lean into your natural energy, your natural skills and
strengths.
And the elements allow us to understand our personality, make decisions and take action in a way
that feels comfortable and aligned to who we are are because you already took this big leap.
So it's time to actually find some peace and care of yourself and do things the easier way possible
because you're already going through a lot of challenges.
So to identify your element personality, I invite you to take the quiz that should be around here
somewhere.
And in a couple of minutes you will find exactly if you are fire, air, earth or water personality.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Paola.
I have an academic background in cultural anthropology because of course, I love traveling and
learning about different cultures.
I also have an academic background in communication and psychologies.
And I am a trained hypnotist and I'm a certified yoga teacher.
And in a not related thing, I'm also a certified Spanish and English teacher.
And well, I've been also dancing a lot.
I was dancing for a contemporary dance company for 10 years and I was also working as a dance
teacher for a while.
So as you can see, these are all a bit of random elements.
But I'm.
What I decided is that I could bring all my skills together to actually help women like me who are
living abroad and are going through these challenges.
And that's what I'm doing now.
But I'm also using astrology to do that because it was such a clarifying practice for me.
It helped me understand my natural skills, my natural strengths, and it was what helped me to
bring everything together.
And that's how I got the inspiration for the quiz that I invited you to take.
So I hope you have already taken the quiz.
If not, you can do it at the end of a presentation.
And let's go into each one of these different element personalities.
So we will start with fire personality.
If you are fire, your energy is fast, it's bold and Motivated by action.
However, you might struggle with taking in too much too fast and that can lead you to feel like
burning out.
So in order to keep your fire going in a healthy, aligned way, what I suggest you to do is to have
like a micro adventures calendar and to plan something exciting, probably new every week and
that will keep you challenged and motivated.
Also, you can do like a smaller version of this, setting a small cultural challenges.
And this can look like trying a new restaurant, maybe going around a new area of the city without
using a gps, practicing some lines in the new target language that you have.
And these kind of things that challenge yourself will definitely help you to keep your spark on.
However, I also suggest that you have an energy check in.
So for example, to pause around the middle of the week to assess your energy because with your
fire personality you might be trying a lot of new things, trying to do everything at once.
So it's good to check where your energy levels are and then maybe schedule some self care
restorative day that will keep you just coming back to yourself and get ready for more adventures.
Let's go to the next one, the Earth personality.
So if you have this kind of personality, you are most likely very steady, practical and organized.
However, you might be struggling with perfectionism, overthinking and a bit of resistance to
change.
So to stay grounded but moving forward at the same time, I really suggest you to prioritize
progress over perfection.
And a way of doing this is, for example, establishing time limits for whatever task you're going
through.
And after that time limit, consider it done and that it's good enough as it is and then just move
forward.
Also setting micro deadlines.
For example, if you have a big project to keep this study progress, you can divide it into little steps
and establish a deadline.
And again, when you reach that moment, stop reviewing re editing and just consider it done.
So you can keep on progressing without getting stuck.
And something that is very important for you is that you may be very much goal oriented, work
oriented, and it's very important to have social time.
And the best way to do that is to schedule it if it was part of your routine of your to do checklist
that you might likely have.
So yeah, add their social time.
That will really help you to also feel more integrated in your new community.
So now let's go to the water element.
So if you are a water element personality, you're naturally very gentle, empathic, and you thrive in
emotional safety.
However, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed and maybe that keeps you like procrastinating
and have some difficulty starting new things.
So in order to flow with ease, my recommendations are to keep track of your emotions and then
you can also realize where you are feeling in the best state to move forward.
Also prioritizing self care for your kind of personality.
This is not like optional.
You really need to feel good in order to feel like thriving and just going back to yourself, taking your
time, it's very important.
And also joining groups where you feel safe and supported.
And if for example, if you are new in your community, in your new city and you haven't still find
these places, you can explore a bit, but also know who you can call.
It can be a friend or you can just look for professional help.
But it's important for you to know that you have someone to reach to whenever all these feelings
become come overwhelming.
So last but not least the air personality.
So your energy is very creative social and you thrive on variety.
However, you might struggle following through projects, you might leave a lot of things already
started, but not completing them.
And you might also be struggling with loneliness in crowds.
So in order to feel light and expansive, a very important thing for you is to find accountability
partners because you're a very social person.
If you want to start a new habit, if you want to maybe engage in a new activity in your new
community, to find a friend or someone that is going with you or that you're going to talk about
what you did will help you a lot to actually achieve that and to commit to doing whatever you
decide to do.
Also something important, it's to prioritize having social quality over quantity.
What I mean by this is that you might want to join many different groups of different kinds of
interests activities, but then you might feel like stuck in a superficial level of getting to know
people.
So my suggestion is that maybe you really consider what your two or three main social groups that
you want to join and then really try to get to know the people in that group before joining other
groups.
So then you can establish deeper connections that might be very important in in this transition of
your life.
And also one thing to have in mind is to establish personal boundaries because you might be likely
to say yes to every invitation.
And sometimes you just need to have a solo time first of all to actually process everything that
you're learning with these interactions.
You might be establishing a very good network, but maybe you don't follow through what they ask
you about, or maybe you need to call them back.
But you are busy with other social groups.
So it's good to have some kind of boundaries about the use of your social time and also to keep
this kind of processing solo time.
So all of these are just recommendations.
When you take the quiz you will get more ideas and suggestions for each one of these elements.
So if you haven't done it already take the quiz to discover your element and notice what already
feels natural.
Most likely you are already doing some of these activities and then you can add one, only one new
practice so you keep it small and easy and see how it's feeling and then you can maybe add
another one or two more of this.
So thank you for joining me for my presentation.
